The Slovak Academy of Sciences honoured its distinguished personalities for 2026. Among the fourteen jubilaries who received a congratulatory letter from the President of the SAS at a ceremonial seminar held on 16 September 2026 was Doc. Ing. Milan Tyšler, CSc. from the Institute of Measurement Science, Slovak Academy of Sciences.
The ceremonial seminar Distinguished Personalities of the SAS took place in the Dionýz Blaškovič Lecture Hall at the Institute of Virology of the Biomedical Research Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. The congratulatory letters were presented to the awardees by Martin Venhart, President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, while the Vice-Presidents of the SAS representing the individual scientific divisions – Pavol Hvizdoš, Daniela Antolová and Denisa Fedáková – also extended their congratulations during the official ceremony.

Doc. Ing. Milan Tyšler, CSc.
Doc. Ing. Milan Tyšler, CSc. is one of the prominent figures in Slovak biomedical engineering and measurement science. His jubilee provides an opportunity to reflect not only on the decades he has devoted to science, but above all on the lasting contribution he has made to the Institute of Measurement Science and to the broader scientific community of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
He has devoted his entire professional career to the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Measurement Science. For more than four decades, he has contributed significantly to shaping the Institute’s scientific direction, its development, and its standing both in Slovakia and internationally.
His scientific work has focused primarily on research at the interface of engineering and biomedical disciplines. He has become an internationally recognised expert in biomedical measurements, biosignal processing and analysis, modelling of the electrical activity of the heart, and non-invasive methods of electrocardiological diagnostics. A characteristic feature of his research has been the integration of fundamental research with practical applications – ranging from mathematical and experimental modelling of biological processes to the development of medical measurement systems and instrumentation.
He is the author of an extensive body of scientific work, a patent and several utility models, and has participated as a principal investigator or researcher in numerous national and international research projects. An important part of his professional activities has also been the education and supervision of young researchers, teaching, and the long-term representation of Slovak science in national and international professional organisations.
His contribution to the development of the Institute of Measurement Science itself has also been exceptional. For many years, he headed the Department of Biomeasurements, served as Chairman of the Scientific Council and Deputy Director, and from 2006 to 2018 was Director of the Institute of Measurement Science. He subsequently served as the Institute’s Scientific Secretary.
He also played an important role in the academic self-governance of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. For twenty years, during five consecutive terms from 2005 to 2025, he represented the Institute of Measurement Science in the Assembly of the SAS. He remains actively involved in the life of the Institute today, serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Measurement Science, SAS, and Deputy Head of the Department of Biomeasurements.
In all these roles, he has helped to create an environment conducive to high-quality science, new ideas, and cooperation across engineering, natural sciences and medicine. Beyond his scientific achievements and the positions he has held, however, an equally important aspect of his contribution is its human dimension – his willingness to share experience, his ability to bring people together, and his enduring sense of responsibility for the Institute and the scientific community to which he has devoted a substantial part of his professional life.
Milan Tyšler is one of those personalities who not only represent their institution, but who, through their scientific work, decisions and personal example, have helped shape it over many years.
On the occasion of his 75th birthday, we therefore express our sincere gratitude for his lifelong contribution to the development of the Institute of Measurement Science and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. We wish him, above all, good health, personal fulfilment, and many more years filled with creativity, an enduring interest in science, and satisfaction from its achievements.
