Dr. Ing. Pavol Szomolányi je samostatný vedecký pracovník s dlhoročnou praxou v odbore magnetická rezonancia.

  • podieľal sa na vývoji NMR tomografu s nízkym magnetickým poľom 0.1T v Laboratóriu zobrazovacích metód Ústavu merania SAV. V rámci vývoja tohoto tomografu s rezistívnym magnetom bol spoluriešiteľom stabilizátora prúdu (stabilizácia prúdu 200V/140A s krátkodobou povolenou chybou do 5ppm).
  • podieľal sa na vývoji a realizácii riadiacej jednotky, slúžiacej na riadenie MRI experimentu.
  • podieľal sa na programovaní MRI sekvencií riadiacej konzoly S.M.I.S ako aj na vyhodnocovaní MRI dat písaním programov prostredí software IDL http://www.ittvis.com/index.asp
  • v Laboratóriu NMR mikroskopie, Oddelenie biochémie, biofyziky a makromolekulárnej chémie na Univerzite v Terste sa podieľal na vývoji MRI meracích metód osteoporózy kostí ako aj na vývoji MRI in-vitro meracích metód na diagnostiku skorého štádia ochorenia ľudských chrupaviek. Jedným z projektov bol aj materiálový výskum zameraný na diagnostiku rozloženia vody v kávovom zrne. Tento projekt bol financovaný z grantu firmy ILLY spracovateľa kávy, ktorý dlhodobo spolupracuje na svojom vývoji s Univerzitou v Terste.
  • v Laboratóriu NMR tomografie, Katedra fyziky, Univerzita New Brunswick, New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada sa výhradne podieľal na materiálovom výskume. Pomocou pôvodnej MRI metódy nazvanej SPRITE realizoval merania neživých objektov, vyznačujúcich sa veľmi krátkymi relaxačnými časmi, na úrovni niekoľkých milisekúnd. Typickými objektami tohto výskumu boli napr. betóny v rôznom štádiu hydratácie, genetický modifikované potraviny, vzorky zeme nasiaknuté ropou, plasty a vybrané plyny pri nízkych tlakoch
  • počas postdoktorandského pobytu v Laboratóriu magnetickej rezonancie vysokého magnetického pola, v MR Centre pôsobiacom pri Fakulte medicíny vo Viedni sa podieľal na klinickom výskume transplantátov chrupaviek v ľudskom kolene, najmä v post-transplantačnéj fáze, ktorá je kritická pre kvalitu života pacienta. Takisto sa spolupodielal na fMRI klinickej štúdii v spolupráci s oddelením neurochirurgie AKH nemocnice vo Viedni
