In the Department of Optoelectronic Measuring Methods Institute of Measurement Science SAS have been developed and in association with the Department of implementation also realized two complex measuring systems for continuous automated measurement of inclination of reactor vessels of the third and fourth block of the nuclear power plant in Mochovce. The systems are based on the principles of hydroleveling and pendametry with optoelectronic sensing of measured values. Installation of the systems will contribute to the raising of standards of operational safety of that nuclear power plant, because the tilt monitoring of nuclear power reactor is important for the safe insertion of the control rods of the reactor.

Applicator: Nuclear power plant Mochovce, Slovenské elektrárne, member of the group ENEL

Result 2: Use of optical methods in nondestructive testing of altar panel paintings of Master Pavol from Levoča

Projects: -
Authors: M. Hain, J. Bartl, V. Jacko

The research results of the Department of optoelectronic measuring methods were applied in collaboration with the restorers from the Regional restoration studio Levoča Mgr. art. Rudolf Boros and Mgr. art. Peter Hric in non-destructive physical survey of eight of Gothic panel paintings of the main altar by Master Pavol from the st. Jacob church in Levoca, five panel paintings from the side altar and murals behind the main altar. The aim of the optical non-destructive survey by means of specialized technical means was:

  • identification and visualization of the underdrawings, repainted text or hidden signatures by IR reflectography
  • identification of later interventions and any retouches to paintings by UV fluorescence method.

Applicator: Regional restoration studio Levoča, Monuments Board.
