Since 1962 the Institute of Measurement Science has been a supervising body of postgraduate studies and the seat of the Commission for the PhD degree award in the scientific discipline of Measurement Science. In 1985 the Institute gained the privilege of conducting PhD studies also in Bionics and Biomechanics.
Related to the new law on education in the Slovak Republic (approved in 1996), the Institute proceeded with postgraduate education in two study fields: 39-71-9 Measurement Science (in cooperation with Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, STU in Bratislava) and 39-52-9 Bionics and Biomechanics (in cooperation with Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TU in Košice). This education took place until the law was changed at the end of 2010.
According the new law, since March 2006, the Institute is accredited as external educational institution of the Faculty of Electrical Engineertioing and Information Technology, Slovak Technical University in Bratislava for PhD study in the study field 5.2.54. Measurement Technology. In 2009 and 2016 the Institute was re-accredited for this study according the law for the next period.
