The 5th international conference on probability and statistics PROBASTAT 2006 was held in the Congres Center of the SAS in Smolenice on June 5 - 9, 2006.
The conference was organized by the Institute of Measurement Science SAS in cooperation with Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Comenius University in Bratislava, Mathematical Institute SAS and The Union of Slovak Mathematicians and Physicians. In the conference attended 77 participants for 18 countries (Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Latvia, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, USA).

In the conference 9 invited plenary lectures , 43 lectures and 10 posters were presented. During the conference abstracts of the conference were published. Reviewed proceedings PROBASTAT 2006 with full texts of the papers will be published in 2007 as special issue of the journal Tatra Mountains Mathematical Publications (published by the Mathematical Institute SAS).
The PROBASTAT 2006 conference was scientifically and socially very successful. It gained its international recognition also by the attendance of the delegate of ISI (International Statistical Institute) - an international organization that is the top representation in the field of mathematical statistics.
