The eleventh international conference on measurement -
MEASUREMENT 2017 was held in the Congress center of the SAS in Smolenice on May 29 - 31, 2017. Detailed information on the conference can be found on the conference web page www.measurement.sk/M2017.
The main organizer of the event was the Institute of
Measurement Science, Slovak Academy of Sciences and the co-organizer was the
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University
of Technology in Bratislava. Technical sponsors were The Czechoslovak Section of
IEEE, Slovak IMEKO technical committees TC7 and TC13, Slovak Metrological
Society, Slovak National Committee U.R.S.I. and Slovak Society of Biomedical
Engineering and Medical Informatics.
The conference
is organized regularly since 1997 in two-year periods and is traditionally
devoted to three main topics: theoretical problems of measurement, measurement
of physical quantities and measurement in biomedicine. Also this time the
subjects of individual contributions within this topics were related to wide
range of problems of measurement science from the metrological problems, definitions
of main units and estimation of measurement uncertainties in special cases, through
the design of new measuring methods and protocols, up to the development of
special measuring systems for applications in electrical, mechanical, and power
engineering, biology and medicine.
More than 70
registered participants from 11 countries (Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic,
Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, and Ukraine)
participated in the conference this year.
The oral
sessions were opened by three overview lectures devoted to the main conference
topics. Dr. Chunovkina (Russia) presented a paper on model-based approach for evaluation of pooled measurement data, the paper of
professor Mlynarik (Austria) was devoted to the principles and first results of
MR fingerprinting and Dr. Bohac (Slovakia) presented an overview of thermal
properties of materials and their measurements.
All other oral
and poster presentations were selected during a reviewing process where each
paper was evaluated by two or three reviewers. Selected 30 oral and 29 poster presentations
were organized in 8 oral and 2 poster sessions.
Also during
this conference the Young Investigator Award competition of young scientists
took place and the best oral and poster presentation was selected. The aim of
the competition was to promote active participation and publications of young
researchers in measurement science. This year the share of young conference
participants was quite high and 18 authors submitted their contributions to the
competition. The papers were evaluated by seven members of an international
jury and the winners obtained small gifts from the Czechoslovak IEEE section
and were offered to publish their contributions in extended form in the
impacted web-based open access journal Measurement Science Review. The winner
in category of oral presentations was Mohamed F. Issa from Hungary; the best
poster was presented by Orest Kochan from Ukraine.
Printed
conference proceedings were presented to all participants during the
conference; electronic versions of the papers are available in IEEE Xplore and
Scopus, and for the conference participants also on the conference web page.
Selected papers in extended form will be published after successful review in
the journal Measurement Science Review.
Besides the
scientific program, the participants could join a bus trip to the historical
city of Trnava which is the seventh largest town in Slovakia, lying near
Smolenice or enjoy a hiking tour in Little Carpathians to the top of Záruby
(768 m) and back to the Smolenice castle. The social program of the conference included
also a welcome dinner with music performance of the Róbert Ragan trio, barbeque
in the castle courtyard connected with tasting of selected sorts of white, rose
and red wines from the Little Carpathian region.
