IWMS - Short History

Here, we present a brief description of the development of the International Workshop on Matrices and Statistics (IWMS) series, as seen by Simo Puntanen and George P.H. Styan. The first IWMS was held in Tampere, Finland, in 1990, and the last one, the 17th IWMS, has been held in Tomar, Portugal, in July 2008.
