Research profile:

Dr. Ing. Pavol Szomolányi is researcher with a long practice in the field of Magnetic Resonance

At the Institute of Measurement Science, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava:

  • participated in the development of MRI system with low magnetic field at 0.1T at the Laboratory of Imaging Methods, Institute of Measurement Science. Within this project, he was involved into the problematics of current stabilizer (stabilization of 200V/140A with short-term instability below 5ppm)
  • participated in the development of MRI system with low magnetic field at 0.1T at the Laboratory of Imaging Methods, Institute of Measurement Science. Within this project, he was involved into the problematics of current stabilizer (stabilization of 200V/140A with short-term instability below 5ppm)
  • participated in the research and development of sequencer, to control entire MRI experiment
  • participated at the SMIS console programming as well as data processing in the IDL environment http://www.ittvis.com/index.asp

At the Laboratory of NMR microscopie, Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Trieste:

  • participated on the measuring methods for the human bone osteoporosis, as well as MRI in-vitro measuring methods for the early diagnostics of human cartilage disease.
  • participated on the material sicence – focused on the determination of the water distribution in the coffee bean. This project was financed from the grant provided by ILLY, traditional local producer of roasted coffee, which has long tradition in collaboration with the University of Trieste.

At the Department of Physics, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada

  • participated exclusively on the material science. Using original MRI method named SPRITE realized measurements of non-living samples characterised by extremely short relaxation time constants on the order of several tens of microseconds. Typical objects for this measurement were samples of concretes in different level of hydration, genetically modified food products, samples of soil soaked with oil, plastic material and gasses at low pressure.

At the Centre of Excellence, Highfield MR located at the Faculty of Medicine, Vienna

  • participated on the clinical research of the transplanted cartilage grafts into the human knee joint, especially in the postsurgery period, which is critical for the quality of life of the patient
  • participated in the fMRI clinical study under the collaboration with the Department of Neurochirurgie, AKH hospital, Vienna, Austria
