Development of SQUID Gradiometric and Susceptometric Methods for Iron Homeostasis Related Bio-Applications |
Project of the Scientific Grant Agency VEGA 2/0152/13
Duration of the project: 01/2013 - 12/2016
Principal investigator: Ing. Ján Maòka, CSc.
Project summary:
- Design and optimalization of SQUID gradiometric and susceptometric measuring methods and devices for detection and localization of the cancer tissue and for study of processes related to a disturbed iron regulation incardiovascular and tumour diseases.
- Gaining a new knowledge of iron homeostasis processes and biomineralization in ferritin cores in above givendiseases.
- Design of a tumour diagnostics method using SQUID gradiometric systems based on measurements of the magnetic moment and susceptibility of the measured samples and models of organs. Determination of the limitsensitivity of the measuring system and definition of factors affecting the diagnostic interpretation.
- Gaining a new knowledge of interactions of magnetic nanoparticles with biological solutions and of theirbehaviour after uptake into cells.
